The Ferry and Okanogan Counties 4-H programs combined in July 2009 to hold a Natural Resource Camp at Camp Tokiwanee located on Lost Lake by Bonaparte. Sixty-six 4-H members and 22 volunteers from both counties attended the
4-day camp. The 4-H'ers participated in exciting and educational activities such as:

  • Canoeing in a large 14 passenger canoe
  • Ferry County 4-H Logo
  • Swimming
  • Portable Challenge
  • Creating a Camp Record Book Page
  • Shooting Sports - Archery
  • At a recycle craft station, they learned how to make a water bottle holder out of old jeans.
  • Fire Building/Extinguishing
  • Team Storytelling & Skit for Campfire

The Natural Resource 4-H camp was initiated by the Ferry and Okanogan County Leader's Councils to provide natural resource education during the summer months. The goals were to offer area youth opportunities to learn the importance of natural resources, forest health, natural resource career exploration, job skill enhancement, current technology, and positive outdoor recreation activities. Funding was provided in part through the WSU Ferry and Okanogan County Extension Title III Forestry projects funded through the Ferry and Okanogan County Commissioners which allowed us to keep the registration fees minimal. If you would like to become part of the camp planning team, contact us.

Thank you to all the many volunteers who helped make the

2009 Natural Resource Camp a huge success!
