WELCOME
TO THE MASTER GARDENER PAGE!
Our Master Gardeners give you the
latest research-based information to assist you with your gardening
questions. The extension office can identify plants or weeds, plant
disease identification, has information to send out soil samples
and then assist you with interpreting the results.
Volunteering
Thank you for your interest in the WSU Extension Master Gardener
Volunteer Program. We are looking for volunteers willing to be trained
and who have a sincere interest in helping WSU Extension provide
unbiased gardening information to the public. We are looking for
people who are open-minded, flexible, conscientious, and who have
good people skills in one-on-one interactions or group settings.
Volunteers need to value scientific research, personal experience,
and diverse opinions, and know when to use the appropriate recommendations
for each particular situation. You must be able to give a variety
of appropriate management options, especially for pest management
situations, regardless of how you prefer to handle your own gardening
problems.
WSU Master Gardener volunteer training provides new volunteers
with a background of unbiased, research based information and recommendations
on community horticultural topics. This knowledge is then used to
provide WSU home and community gardening information to clients.
It is an opportunity to increase your own horticulture knowledge
as well as personal development skills. The primary focus of volunteer
activities after completion of training is education: giving presentations
and demonstrations, teaching classes for youth and adults, and offering
advice on plant and insect questions. Master Gardener Volunteers
commit to 40 hours of service the first year following completion
of training and 25 hours each year they participate thereafter.
There is a $100 fee for the training. Scholarships are available.
If you have any questions or need more information, please call
(509) 775-5235. We look forward to meeting and including you in
the WSU Master Gardener Volunteer Program.
