4-H Challenge Program

What is Challenge?

4-H Challenge is an experiential learning and personal development 4-H program where groups participate in adventurous learning activities such as Portable Team Challenges, Low and High Ropes Courses, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Snowshoeing, Survival, and Wilderness First-aid. The course uses team obstacles and team supported individual elements. The activity is conducted under the careful supervision of specially trained and certified volunteers and collaborating agency personnel who use hands-on learning models. They adhere to the highest standards of safety and education.

4-H Challenge Course Training Opportunities

Currently there are no trainings scheduled. Contact Phil if you would like to be notified of future trainings.

All trainings are FREE if you arrange for volunteer "payback" hours within the
Colville Reservation Ferry County service area.

Program Effectiveness

Evaluation reveals that nearly all of our course participants demonstrate improvements in one or more of these life skills: self-confidence, responsibility, willingness to take appropriate physical and emotional risks, ability to work together as a group, communication, decision making, and problem solving skills.

Full Value Concepts

4-H Challenge programs create an environment where participants ask for and receive trustworthy support from their team. “Challenge by Choice” is used so participants are encouraged, but never coerced or pressed to participate in any activity. Groups are asked to:

  • Work together and…
  • Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment as they solve problems presented by the course.
  • Participants grow and learn about themselves as they strive for accomplishments previously thought impossible.
  • The group gives and receives honest feedback during activities and…
  • Debriefs to relate what is learned during 4-H Challenge to their lives.

Is Challenge for Me?

4-H Challenge is for everybody. Groups are always welcomed to schedule the 4-H Challenge Courses. Groups who have used our program in the past include schools, youth clubs, religious groups, businesses and camps. Retreats and trainings are held for individuals who want to work on specific skills or learn to lead Challenge activities for their own group.
